Our prosperity as a City depends on our commitment to environmental sustainability. Chris’ unwavering efforts to improve air quality, defend our watershed, expand greenspace, and advance our waste management and recycling efforts are not just reflective of Salt Lake City values, they are critical to reversing the effects of global climate change.
Chris believes that access to clean air and safe drinking water is a basic human right.
As vice chair of the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City, Chris led the effort to add sustainability requirements to the agency’s mission and strategic plan.
As chair of the Council, Chris helped open the new Salt Lake City International Airport, a LEED Gold-certified facility that will reduce 8,000 metric tons of Green House Gases annually.
In directing Salt Lake City’s lobbying efforts, Chris has placed sustainability initiatives and environmental protections at the forefront.
You can always count on Chris to keep pushing back on developers who don’t respect Salt Lake City’s green values.
Chris supports the city’s lawsuit against the Inland Port. He has fought to set aside the most vulnerable and environmentally sensitive areas for conservation, and has prioritized economic justice for the communities closest to the port boundaries.
